Congratulations to Award Winning Whitewater Cobden Sun
A couple of weeks ago in Toronto the top community newspaper journalists in Canada were honoured in the annual Better Newspapers Competition and Whitewater Cobden Sun was among the lucky few to take home awards.
The two day event at the Royal York Hotel began with the presentations of national awards from the Canadian Community Newspaper Association. Debbie Robinson took second place in the “Best Sports Photo” category with a photo of players from Opeongo Highs School girls basketball team sitting on the bench as seconds counted down to their first ever county championship. In the “Best Front Page” category Whitewater Cobden Sun came second with its coverage of the 2011 federal election. The Sun was also awarded a Blue Ribbon for best overall newspaper in its circulation.
The following evening was the Ontario Community Newspaper Association awards. In the “General Excellence” category the Sun claimed another second place finish. In the “Premier Awards for Best Feature Writing” the Sun was competing with newspapers with a circulation of 9,999 and under. Ms. Robinson’s submission earned third place for the Sun.
The awards were the culmination of an extraordinary year for Whitewater Cobden Sun. In their first year as newspaper publishers, Ms. Dupuis and Mr. Winters received unprecedented support from readers and the business community. They sincerely thank the many individuals who have offered words of encouragement and anticipate 2012 will be another positive year for everyone.
