Ministry of Labour (MOL) “Safe at Work Ontario” –Stakeholder Consultation
Wednesday March 21st

John Hutton and Doug Easson of the Ministry of Labour will be the guest speakers. They will give an overview of “Safe At Work Ontario”, explain 2012-2013 proposed blitzes and then ask for your (stakeholders) feedback.
Please feel free to invite others who may be interested in participating in this very important dialogue with the Ministry of Labour.

Deep River Earth Day Community Cleanup – April 21st
If you live in Deep River, then here’s a chance for you to pay back in a small way to your community. The Deep River and Area Branch of the Upper Ottawa Valley Chamber of Commerce is in the process of planning a Coordinated Community Cleanup for this year’s Earth Day activity and your participation would be greatly appreciated. The event runs 9 am -2 pm.

Register at Deep River Town Hall on the morning of April 21st, pick up a bag, fill it with trash, and return it. It is that simple.

Upcoming Employer’s Forum in Smith Falls – March 20th
The Immigration Partnership Project office and the Excellence in Manufacturing Consortium (EMC) and the economic development office of the Town of Smith Falls will be conducting an employer’s forum for all businesses interested in learning more about hiring foreign skilled workers and newcomers to Canada, as well as a discussion on the changes to the apprenticeship program.
The forum is scheduled for March 20th in Smith Falls for a breakfast meeting from 8:30 am – 11:00 am. A non-profit organization named “Hire Immigrants Ottawa” will be presenting at the forum.

Quality Inn & Suites Petawawa Names New General Manager
The Quality Inn & Suites in Petawawa is thrilled to announce the promotion of Jessica Schmidt of Eganville to General Manager.  Jessica has been with the hotel from the beginning. She has lots of experience in her filed and moved up to Assistant Manager within a year. Jessica was instrumental in helping the Quality Inn achieve their Gold Award in 2011 and their Platinum Award in 2012 as well as achieving National Second Place status in 2012. Jessica’s dedication, efficient and energetic nature and her desire to strive for the best has been key to maintaining great relationships with hotel guests, team members and ownership.

Algonquin College in the Ottawa Valley – 10th Anniversary Options Skilled Trade, Career and Job Fair
It is the 10th Anniversary of the Options Skilled Trade, Career and Job Fair on Wednesday May 9th, 2012 at the Pembroke Memorial Centre and we would like you to join us to celebrate! This project has engaged more than 10,000 high school student in the past decade and exposed them to the Skilled Trades.
We are anticipating an even bigger and more interactive “hands-on” event than in the past. As an exhibitor you have 3 options to participate:
a)      Skilled Trades Fair – interactive/hands-on booth promoting the skilled trades
b)      Career Fair – promoting your organization and the type of employment that exist
c)       Job Fair – actively seeking employees and accepting resumes
As an exhibitor there is no cost to you for participating and we are encouraging you to think outside the box and include an interactive and experiential learning component to your booth – be creative and have fun!
The registration deadline this year is Friday March 30, 2012, however, get your registrations in early, as space is limited and we want to insure that we accommodate everyone.
