Enterprise Renfrew County & UOV Chamber of Commerce – 2012 Bridges to Better Business
Enterprise Renfrew County and the UOV Chamber of Commerce have partnered together to host the 2012 Bridges to Better Business event under the theme “Community Engagement… Get Involved -Make a Difference”. It will be held Thursday October 18th, 2012 from 9:00 am – 4:00 pm at The Best Western Pembroke Inn & Conference Centre in Pembroke.
Don’t miss the dynamic key-note speaker, Bruce M. Firestone. Mr. Firestone is best known as a professor and founder of NHL hockey team, the Ottawa Senators and their home Scotiabank Place as well as author of the Quantum Entity Trilogy and Executive Director of Exploriem.org. 
 Bruce will address the importance of engaging the community to develop small business and how to improve as an economy.
This annual event is a one-day learning and networking opportunity packed with great ideas to help entrepreneurs succeed. The event provides entrepreneurs with opportunity to develop valuable networking contacts and share innovative ideas with their peers.
The price of $25 covers the cost of the lunch and 2 breaks (morning and afternoon). This price of $25 will remain inclusive for Chamber Members Only even after the tradeshow table component fills up.

The Early Bird Registration for the General Public or non-Chamber businesses runs September 4th to Sept 30th for $40 + HST with the offering of a free table for the Tradeshow (if there is still room. Price rises to $50 + HST on October 1stDeadline for registration is October 12th.
This event this year will replace our Small Business Week Tradeshow that we have traditionally held on the Friday of Small Business Week.

Media and Public Relations Night Class – Algonquin College
Does your business have a media and public relations strategy? Do you know when is the right time to contact the media and how to pitch them that you have a good story to tell? Algonquin College’s Pembroke Campus is offering a night class in Media and Public Relations this fall, beginning Thursday October 18th. There will be three classes and they will be instructed by Jamie Bramburger, who had a lengthy career in radio and television before joining the college in a public and media relations role as Manager of Community and Student Affairs.

The Ottawa Valley Tourist Association (OVTA), in partnership with the Renfrew County Community Futures Development Corporation (RCCFDC), is excited to announce the following Tourism specific Social Media Workshops.

RBC Children’s Mental Health Project – Helping Kids Inside and Out
You’re invited to “Helping Kids Inside and Out” Information Session on Oct 1st, 2012, 6:30 pm – 7:30 pm at the RBC Royal Bank, 48 Pembroke Street W., Pembroke.
The RBC Children’s Mental Health Project supports almost 200 organizations across Canada that provide early intervention, reduce stigma, increase awareness and provide educational resources for children’s mental health issue. RBC in partnership with Ceridian Canada is offering a 60 minute information session focused on prevalent mental health issue affecting children and their families in Canada: how to distinguish between “normal” behavior and symptoms of mental illness; early warning signs of mental illness and tips on how to find support and resources.

City of Pembroke 2012 Santa Claus Parade – November 24th
The 2012 Santa Claus Parade for the City of Pembroke will be held on Saturday November 24th, 21012 at 5:30 pm. The theme this year’s is “Caribbean Christmas”.
There is no charge to enter a float into the parade and you will be able to raise awareness for your cause/business/organization, as well enjoy the event with your friends, family and the community.
There are also opportunities to sponsor the parade.

Renfrew County’s Festival of Trees – November 24th
Festival of Trees is re-launching as annual event after an absence of several as a charity fundraiser to address Child Poverty in Renfrew County and is hosted by Renfrew County Child Poverty Action Network in association with Renfrew County United Way. It will take place at the Petawawa Civic Centre. This magical evening will include the Snowflake Gala (buffet & dance) and the auction of various items, including uniquely decorated Christmas trees donated by sponsors.

Your business or organization can get involved as a sponsor in several different ways: Sponsor a tree; Sponsor a wreath; Donate a ‘home & hearth’ item for the silent auction; and or Adopt Festival of Trees as your staff Christmas Party.
