Deadline Fast Approaching for Nominations for Upper Ottawa Valley Chamber of Commerce Achievement Awards
November 30th, 2010 at 4:00 pm is the deadline to have your nominations submitted for the Annual Upper Ottawa Valley Chamber of Commerce Achievement Awards.
Know a business or organization that should be recognized for business excellence? Why not nominate them for an award.
The 2010 Feature Award is “Community Contribution by a Business”. This award will be presented to a business that has had a special impact on the Upper Ottawa Valley through volunteerism, advocacy, community building, or business leadership. The recipient business will have shown strong leadership in activities that contribute to the welfare of the Upper Ottawa Valley in any or all of the following areas:
- Beautification of the area.
- Improvement of the recreational opportunities.
- Respect of cultural and socio-economic status of the citizens of the region.
- Advocate and or community booster, fundraiser, sponsor, volunteer.
- Encourages involvement of all employees to volunteer, fundraise, participation in local events.
- Pro-active when addressing issues.

The Awards Gala will be held on Saturday January 29, 2011 at the Germania Hall in Pembroke.
“Faces of Business” – Highlight Your Business
“Faces of Business” video profiles are an opportunity to showcase your business or organization. It is a 3 – 5 minute video that discusses aspects of your business you wish to feature. Your video will be advertised on myFM Radio and will air for one week exclusively on the UOV Chamber of Commerce website. After that week, the video is yours to use as you see fit. This provides you with an excellent promotional tool for your website, presentations, place of business and more.
The cost is $399 + taxes which, includes all production, the promotion on myFM Radio and the finished video for your own use. Videos start airing in the fall. To book your space, contact the Chamber office at 613-732-1492.

Upper Ottawa Valley Chamber of Commerce Annual General Meeting – November 30th
All members are encouraged to attend the Chamber’s Annual General Meeting on Tuesday November 30th. Cost $35/person includes sit down dinner. Guest speaker is Mayor Bob Sweet, Chair of Expo 150. Following the guest speaker there will be a short business meeting with the election of the 2011Board of Directors after which the 2010 Lifetime Achievement Award Recipient will be announced.

Thought you missed out?  Well you can still get in on this offer. We will be holding another draw for pairs of tickets just in time for Christmas. This draw will be for the games in 2011 (January to April). So if you need a special prize for a draw, a gift for an employee, a special reward for a client you can still get tickets.   In conjunction with the Ottawa Senators Hockey Club we have again secured a half season ticket package for the 2010-2011 Hockey Season that the Chamber wants to make available to you our members at a price.   You have the opportunity to purchase terrific lower bowl seats (6 rows from the ice) in the Home End. We are offering them at $99/ticket ($198/game, available in pair only). That is approximately $50 savings per ticket. The next draw will be December 17th.

Louise and Chris Hermitte, Speedpro Signs are moving their office location effective Monday November 15th. Their new location will be 1982 Petawawa Blvd., 5 minutes down on the same side of the street (across from Robinson’s Auto). Same phone number, same email address and same faces.

The Best Western Pembroke Inn & Conference Centre has received the Best Western Director’s Award for outstanding quality standards. The Director’s Award recognizes Best Western International hotels scoring in the top 20% of all 2,400 North American properties in cleanliness and maintenance. Hotels must also meet Best Western’s requirements for design and high service scores to qualify for the distinction.

Mapleside Sugar Bush Brings Home Two International Awards.
Ray and Carol Anne Bonenberg, owners of Mapleside Sugar Bush in Rankin, won two awards at an international Maple Syrup Conference held in Stratford, Ontario recently.
Mapleside won first place overall for their maple butter and brought home a second place ribbon for their maple red pepper jelly. North American Maple Council president Rick Marsh, in presenting the awards to the Bonenbergs said, “Our association has been supporting value-added maple products as a way of broadening the appeal and use of maple syrup. Mapleside is making some excellent products. They have certainly earned these awards.

Maple is an excellent source of nutrients such as manganese, riboflavin and zinc. But it has also shown to contain active antioxidant elements, comparable to Gala red apples, broccoli and bananas.
