OVWRC - Saving Valuable Landfill Space Priority for 2012
OVWRC staff continues to work with the local business community to increase diversion of waste from landfill. The Ottawa Valley Waste Recovery Management Board recently approved an increase to the 2012 Tipping Fee Schedule. The new tipping fee schedule, effectively January 1st, 2012, will see the Mixed Waste Tipping Fee increase to $200 per tonne.
It is relatively easy for ORWRC customers to avoid being charged the higher Mixed Waste Fee. They need to make sure they are recycling and/or composting any material that could be kept out of the landfill. Businesses are encouraged to contact their current waste hauler to inquire about what recycling and/or food waste collection services they offer. OVWRC staff is also available to provide businesses with guidance and staff training related to their recycling or composting programs. Information on commercial waste diversion programs is available on the Centre’s website at www.ovwrc.com or by contacting Elizabeth Graham, Communications Officer at 613-735-7537, ext 216.
