Wow! We are at the end of January already and you know what that means …. Awards Gala time. All the recipients will be named in the next E-Chat.  If you have a submission for the Chamber E-Chat please send it to the Chamber office. Publishing deadlines can be found at the end of this newsletter.
2011 Memberships are Now Due
Membership dues are payable by cash, cheque or credit card. There was an oversight on the invoices and the credit card portion was excluded. If you would like to pay by credit card please call the Chamber office at 613-732-1492. If you are paying by cheque please send it to UOV Chamber, P.O. Box 1010, Pembroke, ON K8A 6Y6. There are still a few members that are still using our old address so please update your records.
 “Faces of Business” – Highlight Your Business – Now Booking for 2011
“Faces of Business” video profiles are an opportunity to showcase your business or organization. It is a 3 – 5 minute video that discusses aspects of your business you wish to feature. Your video will be advertised on myFM Radio and will air for one week exclusively on the UOV Chamber of Commerce website. It also continues to play on the Chamber’s YouTube Channel after the week is over.
Remember it is yours to use as you see fit after it has aired on the Chamber website. It is an excellent promotional tool for your website, presentations, place of business and more.
The cost is $399 + taxes which, includes all production, the promotion on myFM Radio and the finished video for your own use.   To book your space, contact the Chamber office at 613-732-1492.
To view the profiles that have been done visit the Chamber website and click on the YouTube icon under the Calendar to access the Chamber’s YouTube channel. Once there you can view the profiles of The Delfi Group, Bernadette McCann House for Women, AECL, MyFM Radio, Quality Inn & Suites Petawawa, W.O. Stinson, Expo 150, Lifetime Achievement Announcement and the UOV Chamber of Commerce.

Chamber  Young Entrepreneur and Zoomer Entrepreneur Groups Taking Off
The Chamber held an Open House to discuss the launch of two new peer programs for business owners: Young Entrepreneur Group and the Zoomer Entrepreneur Group. The Groups have been discussed as a way to provide support for two of the largest growing entrepreneur age groups: those under 35 and those over 55.
The Zoomer Group’s next meeting will be February 16th at 8:30 am at the Chamber office, 611 TV Tower Road. The Young Entrepreneur Group is tentatively set for February 8th at 5:30 pm (location to be announced. All are welcome for more information please call the Chamber office at 613-732-1492.

Is Your Business Ready For January 1, 2012 – AODA – Customer Service Standards
The Ontario Chamber of Commerce (OCC) and the Education Committee of the Upper Ottawa Valley Chamber of Commerce will be hosting a workshop to help Ontario businesses comply with Ontario’s new customer service standard. Mark Wednesday March 23rd, 2011 on your calendar now, this is one workshop you won’t want to miss. Location: Pembroke Legion Hall; Time: 11:45 am – 1:30 pm; Cost to be announced.

Accessibilities Works is a partnership between the OCC and local chambers of commerce and boards of trade in Ontario and the Accessibility Directorate of Ontario to help businesses comply with the Accessibility Standards for Customer Service. The customer service standard is one of five that will form part of the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA).
The workshop will help members become more aware of and comply with the customer service standard, in order to make their services even more accessible to all of their customers.
The customer service standard applies to all people, businesses and organizations that provide goods or services either directly to the public or to other businesses or organizations and have one or more employees. All organizations must be in compliance by January 1, 2012.
From Canadian Chamber of Commerce re: TD Merchant Services
It has come to the attention of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce that a company called Collective POS is sending notification to some merchants, claiming that on January 27, 2011, TD will stop processing card transaction. This is totally FALSE.
Please be advised that it is not the intention of TD and that TD is investigating the matter.

Make It Our Business Campaign Training of Trainers Workshop
The Renfrew County Committee for Abused Women (RCCAW) is hosting a Make It Our Business (MIOB) Campaign training of trainers session at the Marguerite Centre in Pembroke February 8th and 9th, 2011. The MIOB Campaign was designed by the Neighbours Friends and Families program to help businesses, government offices and social service agencies meet their legal obligation under Bill C-168 (amendment to the workplace safety act) to protect their employees from domestic violence in the workplace. The cost for the two days (inclusive of lunch, snacks, workshop materials and certificate of participation) is only $40. For more information or to register please contact Danielle, RCCAW Public Education Coordinator at 613-401-8940 or rccaw.publiceducation@yahoo.ca
