Well we are at the end of August already. Boy the summer has flown by.  If you have a submission for the Chamber E-Chat please send it to the Chamber office. Publishing deadlines can be found at the end of this newsletter.
* Please note* Chamber Executive Director Lorraine MacKenzie will be away from the office on vacation Sept. 11th – 30th, she will return to the office on Monday October 3rd. Phone message and emails will be monitored in her absence and should there be any urgent issue that can’t wait until her return it will be directed to appropriate Board member contact.

Ottawa Senators Hockey Club held a Putting Contest for 4 tickets to a pre-season game (Ottawa vs Montreal) which was won by Nathan Clouthier.
Ottawa Senators Hockey Club also donated prizes for a raffle draw which included 4 pairs of lower bowl tickets for hockey games in the 2011-12 season (valued at approx. $250/pair) and a suite the Jeff Dunham, Controlled Chaos show on Oct 23rd, 2011 (valued at approx. $2000) . Thank you to them for their support.

Small Business Week Trade Show – October 21st
Following the successful UOVCC Small Business WeekTrade Show last year, we have again begun planning for one to be held during Small Business Week this year. The date is Friday October 21st at the Best Western Pembroke Inn & Conference Centre from 11:00 am – 3:00 pm. 
There is no cost to have a booth in the Trade Show and is exclusive to UOVCC members only. It is our way of thanking you our members. Please watch for more details. Space is limited and will be available on a fist come basis. If you would like to pre-register for your spot now, please contact the Chamber office at 613-732-1492 or manager@uovchamber.com
The business community and the general public are invited come to the Trade Show. There is not admission charge.
Bank of Canada Presentation – New Currency
There will be 2 Bank of Canada presentations on the new currency that will be release this fall.

October 17th at 6:00 pm – Algonquin East Branch will host the first presentation in Barry’s Bay (location to be announced) Cost to be decided.
October 18th at 7:30 am – Breakfast Connections – (location to be announced Pembroke/Petawawa area) Cost: $8/chamber members; $15 general admission

2011 Upper Ottawa Valley Chamber of Commerce Awards Gala – January 28, 2012
Planning has started on the 2011 Awards Gala. Heading up the Gala committee this year is Board member Sue McCrae. The theme for the upcoming gala is “Building For Our Future”
Sue welcomes anyone who is interested in helping on the Gala committee to let the Chamber office know at 613-732-1492. The next meeting is set for October 7th at 8:30 am at the Chamber office. If you are interested in attending please call Lorraine at the Chamber office.
Sponsorship packages will be available and sent out to all members in the next couple of weeks. Sponsorships are on a 1st come basis.

The Ottawa Valley Cultural Mapping Project is seeking committee volunteers. Help define what makes the Ottawa valley unique.
Time commitment: 10 – 12 hours over 8 months

TVCOGECO Seeks Community Feedback
TVCOGECO wants your community feedback. They are seeking input on how you think they could do even better at operating our local community channel.
They are holding open house discussions and your opinions and suggestions are most welcome.
Open House will be held at 185 Lake Street, Pembroke on August 29th, 30th and 31st from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm.

Fall Showcase 2011 – September 16, 17, 18th

: Petawawa Civic Centre
Changes: They are adding a CRAFTERS and ARTISANS LOFT upstairs in the Civic Centre. This will open up the Showcase to more exhibitors and attract more people.

The other big show excitement could revolve around the new ecoENERGY – HOMES program. They hope a lot of businesses will come in to take advantage of this incentive along with one offered by HYDRO ONE.
