New Shorter Website Address & Email Address for the Chamber
The Upper Ottawa Valley Chamber of Commerce has a new shorter version of the website address and email address. The old version still remains in effect but if you want a shorter version please use the following.
Algonquin East Branch of the Upper Ottawa Valley Chamber of Commerce Seeks Nominations for Chair
The business community in Algonquin East is moving ahead with the establishment of a branch of the Upper Ottawa Valley Chamber of Commerce. The region has determined its area to encompass the municipalities of Madawaska Valley, Brudenell, Lyndoch & Raglan, Killaloe, Hagarty & Richards, and South Algonquin.

The first order of business is to seek nominations from individuals who are interested in chairing the branch. The Chair would sit on the Upper Ottawa Valley Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, and would facilitate the meetings of the branch throughout the year. Requirements of the Chair include:
  • Member in good standing of the Upper Ottawa Valley Chamber of Commerce
  • Member’s business or organization is located in the geographical region of Algonquin East
  • Able to attend monthly meetings of the Board of Directors for the Upper Ottawa Valley Chamber of Commerce
  • Will organize and lead the branch meetings with the assistance of additional branch members
  •  Believes in expanding and promoting the local business community
The election will be held on August 9, 2011 at 9:00am at the Township of Madawaska Valley. Nominations can be submitted to Lorraine MacKenzie by August 8, 2011 at 12:00pm (Noon) and will also be taken from the floor on August 9, 2011 at 9:00am. In order to vote for the Chair, you must be a member in good standing of the Upper Ottawa Valley Chamber of Commerce. Memberships are pro-rated at 50% off for the remainder of 2011.
Positions such as Vice Chair, Secretary and other members will be appointed. Only the position of Chair is an elected position.

Annual UOV Chamber of Commerce Golf Tournament – August 19th – Your Help is Needed!
We hope that you have the date of Friday August 19th written in on your calendar and you have booked the day to golf in the annual golf tournament. This year’s fun filled day of golf will be held at the Roanoke Golf Club on Biesenthal Road, Pembroke. Cost until August 12th is $75 per golfer (tax included). After August 12th it will increase to $85/golfer. This includes 18 holes of golf, power cart, local food BBQ supper, on course contests, prizes and a Hole in One Contest sponsored by MyFM Radio. Shot gun start is 1:00 pm. Register to golf before to save $10 per golfer. If you don’t golf but would like to join in on the networking the cost is $20 per person (includes BBQ supper).
The golf committee needs your help! We have the following sponsorship opportunities still available (as of July 28th)
Tee Sponsorships: $75/tee (your choice of Men’s or Ladies’) if you sponsor both on the same hole you have the opportunity to display a banner and have your staff man the hole. Limited spots available!

Golf Cart Sponsorship: $250 A sign of every cart welcoming golfer to the UOV Chamber Golf Tournament) (approx 50 carts)

Prizes for Golfers: Each golfer should get a prize so we are looking for approximately 100 prizes. The prize table is always an important part of each tournament.

2011 Upper Ottawa Valley Chamber of Commerce Awards Gala – January 28, 2012
Planning has started on the 2011 Awards Gala. Heading up the Gala committee this year is Board member Sue McCrae. The theme for the upcoming gala is “Building For Our Future”
Sue welcomes anyone who is interested in helping on the Gala committee to let the Chamber office know at 613-732-1492. The next meeting is set for Aug 23rd at 8:15 am at Algonquin College, Room 226. If you are interested in attending please call Lorraine at the Chamber office.

Helferty’s Disaster Restoration Recently Held Grand Opening of New Facility & Services
Helferty’s Disaster Restoration recently celebrated the Grand Opening of their new facility and offered demonstrations of two additional services to their insurance clients.
The day-long event included an information seminar for local insurance people, tours of the newly renovated building, demonstrations of Helferty’s INFRAED camera for detecting moisture, commercial drying equipment for large projects, a mock containment area used for mould or asbestos abatement and excavating equipment for removal of oil contaminated soil.
Helferty’s Disaster Restoration was started in 1968 by Don and Lynne, the company was purchased by their son Devlin in 1997. They currently employ 10 full time and 2 part time people. Helferty’s have 3 truck mount extraction units, two service vehicles and three project management vehicles. They still offer services for carpet/upholstery and duct cleaning as well as water, fire, wind and oil spill cleanup, which includes emergency services and reconstruction to restore the home or business. A more
