Happy Canada Day! The summer season is here. We hope everyone taking vacations this summer will have a safe and fun filled holiday. If you have a submission for the Chamber E-Chat please send it to the Chamber office. Publishing deadlines can be found at the end of this newsletter.
Annual Upper Ottawa Valley Chamber of Commerce Golf Tournament – August 19th
Mark your calendars for the annual golf tournament. The is year’s fun filled day of golf will be held on Friday August 19th at the Roanoke Golf Club on Biesenthal Road, Pembroke. Cost until August 12th is $75 per golfer (tax included). After August 12th it will increase to $85/golfer. This includes 18 holes of golf, power cart, local food BBQ supper, on course contests, prizes and a Hole in One Contest sponsored by MyFM Radio. Shot gun start is 1:00 pm.
The golf committee has the following sponsorship opportunities still available (as of June 30th)
Tee Sponsorships: $75/tee (your choice of Men’s or Ladies’) if you sponsor both on the same hole you have the opportunity to display a banner and have your staff man the hole.
Closest to the Pin (Ladies): donate a prize with a minimum of $50 value
Golf Cart Sponsorship: $250 A sign of every cart welcoming golfer to the UOV Chamber Golf Tournament) (approx 50 carts)
Beverage Cart Sponsorship: $250 – One bottle of water to each golfer and your sign on beverage cart for the day.
Prizes for Golfers: Each golfer should get a prize so we are looking for approximately 100 prizes. The prize table is always an important part of each tournament.

2011 Upper Ottawa Valley Chamber of Commerce Awards Gala – January 28, 2012
Planning has started on the 2011 Awards Gala. Heading up the Gala committee this year is Board member Sue McCrae. The theme for the upcoming gala is “Building For Our Future”
Sue welcomes anyone who is interested in helping on the Gala committee to let the Chamber office know at 613-732-1492. The next meeting is set for July 19th at 8:15 am at Algonquin College, Room 219. If you are interested in attending please call Lorraine at the Chamber office.
UOV Chamber Held Meeting in Barry’s Bay on June 27th
Representatives from the Chamber went and met with businesses in the Madawaska Valley area on June 27th. The meeting was very successful and productive. Watch for exciting an exciting announcement in the next few weeks.

After 50 years in business, Sid Landen’s Men’s & Ladies’ Wear in Petawawa will be closing its doors on August 30th. Owner Don Blackley says the decision to close was a very tough one to make.   We wish Don all the best as he takes some time for himself.   Don has been with Sid Landen’s for 35 years.

2 Youth Entrepreneur Camps to Be Held This Summer
Renfrew County Community Futures Development Corporation is delighted to offer 2 Youth Entrepreneur Camps this summer.
Youth Enterprise Camp for youth 9 – 14 years of age will provide an amazing opportunity to attend an overnight week-long camp centered on entrepreneurship. The camp will be held July 17th to July 22nd and August 7th till August 12th. Both weeks are being hosted by Camp LOA which is located in Cumberland Ontario. There is only 1 spot left in august and July is filling up quickly!! Cost of the camp is $275 tax incl.
Campers will learn about what it takes to be an entrepreneur, finding suppliers and financing, marketing their products, and how to write a business plan. Youth will meet successful entrepreneurs, shop for their own supplies, and finish off the week by running their business for a day. The learning activities are completed by a variety of physical and teambuilding activities to give the participants a fun and dynamic summer camp experience. For more information on camp registration and details, contact Youth Entrepreneurship Coordinator Laura Murphy lemurphy@bellnet.ca 613.735.3951 ext. 230.

Renfrew County Community Futures Development Corporation in association with the Ontario Trillium Foundation and the Federal Economic Agency for Southern Ontario will be holding “Ottawa Valley Creative Economy Conference” on July 26th, 2011 at the Marguerite Centre, 700 MacKay Street Pembroke. It will run from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm.
