The Communications Committee invites you to “Like” us on Facebook. Just do a search for Upper Ottawa Valley Chamber of Commerce and click on the “Like” button.

The Communications committee will be using these tools to help us communication to you in conjunction with the traditional forms of communications.
2011 Upper Ottawa Valley Chamber of Commerce Awards Gala – January 28, 2012
Planning has started on the 2011 Awards Gala. Heading up the Gala committee this year is Board member Sue McCrae. The theme for the upcoming gala is “Building For Our Future”
Sue welcomes anyone who is interested in helping on the Gala committee to let the Chamber office know at 613-732-1492. The next meeting is set for June 23rd at 8:30 am at the Chamber office.
Lunch Connections – Customer Service – June 22nd
The education Committee is pleased to announce that the guest speaker for the June Lunch Connections – Contact Who You Should Know, What You Should Know is Chris Hinsperger, Bonnechere Caves. The topic is one that is very important with the summer season soon upon us, Customer Service. All are welcome to attend this informative and educational seminar.

Zoomer Entrepreneur Group – June 1st
The Zoomer Entrepreneur Group’s next meeting will be held Wednesday June 1st at 9:30 am at the Pembroke Airport, 176 Len Hopkins Drive, Pembroke. Guest speaker and topic to be announced.
This group is open to any one aged 50+ who has their own business, or is thinking about starting their own business. Guest speakers will be speaking of various topics that are important to the Zoomer Entrepreneur.

First Year Medical Students Will Get a Taste of the Valley During Community Week 2011
A group of first-year medical students from the University of Ottawa will get a taste of the valley later this month when they spend a week in the community shadowing physicians at the Pembroke Regional Hospital.
Organized by the eastern Regional Medical Education Program (ERMEP), Community Week 2011 is designed to introduce first-year medical students to medicine being practiced in communities outside the urban centers.
Pembroke Regional Hospital has participated in Community Week for the past eight years and this year, will host 15 medical students from the University of Ottawa May 24th – 27th.
The Hospital also provides each medical student with a gift bag. Local businesses and organizations are invited to show their support to our medical community and by welcoming the students on external signage or contacting the Hospital’s Medical Affairs office if your business has something unique to share or showcase.

Tee off for a good cause – Algonquin College Capital Campaign tournament at Pembroke Shores Golf Club, Wednesday June 22nd, with a shotgun start at 12:30 pm.

2 Youth Enterprise Camps to Be Held This Summer
Renfrew County Community Futures Development Corporation is delighted to offer 2 Youth Enterprise Camps this summer.
Aspiring young entrepreneurs age 10 – 14 will meet successful entrepreneurs, shop for their own supplies, and run their business for a day. There will also be a variety of physical and team building activities which will make this a fun and dynamic summer camp experience.
Registration is available for July 17th to the 22nd, and August 7th to the 12th, each session will run for 5 nights and 6 days.
Thanks to the generosity of the Ontario Trillium Foundation and the Federal Economic Agency for Southern Ontario the cost of the camp is only $275.

Jubilee Place provides support for young parents – both male and female, providing them with skills training, social skills, cooking and financial skills and an opportunity to interact with others in similar situations. Jubilee Place works with other social services agencies and organizations as well, in attempt to find all of the help that these young parents need to provide their children with a good start in life!
