The Upper Ottawa Valley Chamber of Commerce held its Annual General Meeting on Thursday December 3, 2009 at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 72. The evening included a meal and guest speaker and election of the Board of Directors. The guest speaker was Mr. Dan Champagne, General Sales Manager of CTV -/A\ (Ottawa). 

 

The business portion of the meeting followed the guest speaker included the election of the Board of Directors for 2010. Outgoing President Gail Richardson spoke about the Chamber activities during 2009.

 

Chamber member Izett McBride conducted the election portion of the meeting. Elected as the 2010 Board of Directors are: President Marie Mask, Vice President Gary Melnyk, Treasurer Osiah Horst, Directors at Large, Shaun Cotnam, Karen Streek, April Cappel, Sue Hackett and Jennifer Layman. Appointed as the Algonquin Business Student representatives are Diane Hokum and Michelle Ward.

 

Following the business portion of the meeting new President Marie Mask announced that Mr. Joe Kowalski is the 2009 Lifetime Achievement Award recipient. Ms Mask stated in her announcement, “After coming to Canada in the late 60’s with a spirit of adventure and hard work, careful business planning Joe, his brother and partner Joanne Clifford, Wilderness Tours has grow to become the premier outdoor adventure enterprise. Our recipient and his organization have taken the lead in making Renfrew County a world famous destination for rafters and kayakers and in the course of this have created thousands of job over the years.” Mr. Kowalski will officially accept the award at the Upper Ottawa Valley Chamber of Commerce Achievement Awards Gala on Saturday January 16, 2010 at the Germania Club Hall. Platinum Sponsor for the Gala is Algonquin College. Tickets are $60/person and can be reserved by calling the Chamber office at 613-732-1492.
